Mayor Ben Shaw elected to Local Government General Management Committee

The Local Government Association of Tasmania (LGAT) have announced Derwent Valley Mayor Ben Shaw as the Southern Electoral District representative on the General Management Committee (GMC) until 2021.

The GMC provides oversight to LGAT operations and Mayor Shaw’s election will allow for a stronger voice and presence to advocate for Southern Tasmania.

The GMC is nominated and voted upon by LGAT member council representatives every two years. Mayor Shaw thanks the LGAT members for their vote and confidence in him to drive action and activity in the region.

Mayor Shaw says "It’s reassuring that the Southern Tasmanian Councils have put their confidence in me. I intend to fight for the Derwent Valley and other small communities in the south and make sure we’re helping to guide policy and strategy for the state. This includes seeking State and Federal focus on the issues impacting our communities and being a voice for the residents and local government areas across the region."
